Ensuring safe, sanitised and comfy bus services

The COVID-19 Coronavirus has effected the way each of us live and work. One of the areas most impacted has been the cleaning and sanitising of our homes and public spaces.

In response to the health crisis, Transdev Queensland has taken significant steps to ensure that our fleet and facilities remain clean. For our buses this has meant that each bus is being cleaned internally for more than 3 hours each week.

Needless to say, for our local Cleaning Team their work has increased dramatically.

Each day, Gary, David, Laurena, Anthony, Phyllis and Vince are devoting long hours to cleaning the inside of vehicles to ensure that they are safe for customers and drivers. Their cleaning focuses on passenger and driver touchpoints such as the driver console, handles, ticket readers, windows and seats.

“The rate of work is hectic. When buses return to the Depot in the morning, we have only a small window of time to get them cleaned and sanitised before they go back out in the afternoon,” Vince said.

“The work that we and our drivers do to keep our services and offices clean is so important. By sanitising we are killing germs and stopping the spread of COVID and other viruses, which potentially may save someone’s life,” Gary added.

As part of the response to COVID-19 the Transdev Queensland team have introduced several measures including sanitation of air-conditioning units, driver cleaning kits, and social distance spaces on vehicles.

Unfortunately for some of the team the cleaning never stops. “It follows you. As I have teenage kids, cleaning is still there when I get home from work. Sometimes you dream about it,” Laurena said.

“We have a great, close-knit team, so that makes the work we do a lot of fun.”
